As the Philanthropy Research Manager, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of teams within the Development department and partner with the Director of Annual Campaign and Development Operations Director to plan and implement a comprehensive program to assist in qualifying and researching prospects and donors.

This exciting opportunity will devise and manage a comprehensive donor prospect research and management program, including but not limited to; wealth screening, data mining, gift officer productivity, portfolio audit/balancing, pipeline management, and other methodologies.

In this role, you’ll get to:

  • Performs prospective donor identification, research and analysis to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and connections.

  • Identify new sources of funding for priority initiatives and ensure timely assignment of newly identified prospects.

  • Develop robust fundraiser portfolios containing the strongest prospects, utilizing industry best practices to develop and implement strategies and processes to rate, identify, assign, and track leadership, major, principal, and planned gift prospects.

  • Develop and implement proactive strategies to execute dynamic wealth and propensity reviews and identify new major gift pipeline prospects.

  • Serve as the principal authority on prospect research and philanthropic trends.

  • Promote support services to colleagues through presentations and reports and establish benchmarking to evaluate efficiency of research recommendations and products.

  • Integrate policies and procedures related to research activities into standardized development operations.

  • Monitor local and national news, business publications, and other sources on a daily basis to capture information on current and future donors and incorporate into profiles.

  • Keep abreast of donor trends, philanthropy prospect information, and local and regional business developments and economic trends.

  • Conduct philanthropic research on individuals and organizations; utilize data mining techniques to enhance and bolster fundraising activities

  • Develop and design methods to support comprehensive prospect research and portfolio management, including relationship mapping, analytics, predictive modeling, and other appropriate metrics.

  • Identify and research prospective donors by creating detailed donor profiles, event bios, and synopses of new prospects.

  • Manage the assignment of prospects to development staff; evaluate prospects based on their capacity and inclination to contribute; and perform various research activities to support development initiatives.

  • Develop content, oversee strategy, and facilitate pipeline and prospect tracking meetings with development staff.

  • Collaborate with the development team to achieve fundraising activity and revenue goals through comprehensive prospect research and data mining.

  • Manage a suite of resources (subscription databases and tools) to understand and respond to opportunities.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of equivalent experience in philanthropy/development/fundraising required

  • 5+ years of Experience doing philanthropy research required

  • High proficiency with data retrieval services (e.g. LexisNexis, iWave, Foundation Directory, ResearchPoint, etc.) and with relational databases required

  • Ability to develop proactive prospecting methodologies required

  • Experience working in healthcare, university, or other nonprofit environment required

  • Demonstrated ability in program development, fearless fundraising, and cultural humility required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Raiser's Edge or Salesforce
