Laurel Sakai

National Director, Public Policy And Government Affairs at Planned Parenthood

Laurel Sakai has extensive work experience in the field of public policy and government affairs. Laurel is currently serving as the National Director of Public Policy and Government Affairs at Planned Parenthood Federation of America since June 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Deputy Health Policy Director at the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions from April 2021 to June 2022. Laurel also held the role of Senior Counsel at the same committee from June 2017 to April 2021.

Laurel Sakai has also worked as Senior Counsel for U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal from December 2016 to May 2017. Before that, they served as General Counsel and Counsel at the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs from August 2015 to December 2016, and as Legislative Assistant and Counsel for U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal from February 2013 to January 2015.

Laurel gained experience as a Legislative Assistant at U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka from March 2012 to January 2013. Prior to that, they worked as a Legal Fellow at the National Quality Forum from September 2011 to March 2012. Laurel started their career as a Legal Intern at UVA Health Services Foundation and later worked as a Summer Law Clerk at Legal Aid Justice Center in 2009.

Laurel Sakai completed their education in a chronological manner. Laurel attended Seabury Hall from 1999 to 2003, but the degree name and field of study for this period are unknown. From 2003 to 2007, Laurel attended the University of Southern California, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Laurel'sfield of study during this time was Health and Humanity with a focus on Communication. Finally, Laurel attended the University of Virginia School of Law from 2008 to 2011, earning a Juris Doctor degree in Health Law.
