Spencer Ward has a diverse work experience in various research and engineering roles. Spencer started their career as a NatCar Electrical Engineering Capstone Project member at the University of California, Berkeley in 2013. From there, they worked as a Student Research Assistant III at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where they created a COMSOL thermodynamic model for efficiency of hazardous particle collection device. Spencer then joined the University of Illinois at Chicago as a Research Specialist, conducting experiments on understanding the flight of MEMS aerial microrobots. During this time, they applied a model for microfluidic environment to improve the flight of aerial microrobots. Spencer also worked as a Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California San Diego, leading collaborative research on the design, fabrication, and testing of minimally invasive optoelectrical devices for neural recording and stimulation in murine models. Spencer developed fabrication processes to create small diameter multimodal devices for minimally invasive probes. Additionally, they served as a Teaching Assistant during their time at the University of California San Diego. Most recently, Spencer joined Pleno Inc. as a Staff Engineer in 2021.
Spencer Ward's education history begins in 2009 when they attended Sacramento City College. However, no degree or field of study is specified for this period. In 2011, they transferred to the University of California, Berkeley, where they completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Physics by 2013. Following that, they joined UC San Diego and pursued a Master of Science degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, which they obtained by 2015. Their academic journey continued at UC San Diego, where they achieved a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2020. Moreover, in November 2017, Spencer Ward obtained a certification titled "MicroMBA" from the University of California, San Diego - Rady School of Management.
