Steve Carlson began their career in 2005 as a Marketing Planner at Target, where they planned and managed promotional projects for the '06 Back to School/College campaign, wedding registry, and Home department. Steve also coordinated over 4,000 packaging skus for the domestic department within the spring '06 transition, as well as developed a brand packaging standard book to improve packaging transitions.

In 2006, Steve Carlson began working at PMH as an Art Director, Designer, and Project Manager. As an Art Director, they were responsible for clients such as Walmart, Gap, Behr Paint, Kohl's, Nine West, Sleep Number, Jet. com, and Zales. Theirprojects ranged from social content, branding guides, UX, vector art, animations, display banners, and printed media. As a Project Manager, they managed extensive cross media campaigns from concept to production in print, in-store marketing, broadcast, out of home, online, and guerilla media. Steve also produced campaign calendars for all partners involved, and disseminated creative direction to the Production Department, including layout specifications and client needs.

Steve Carlson completed their Master of Arts in Graphic Design from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2019. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 2001.
