Kindergarten Lead Teacher at Polaris Charter Academy

Mike Matlock has a diverse work experience in education and music. Mike started their career as a Kindergarten Lead Teacher at Polaris Charter Academy in 2014. Prior to that, they worked as a Freelance Musician for various theater production companies including Porchlight Music Theatre, Kokandy Productions, Mercury Theater, The Hypocrites, and Griffin Theater. In 2012, they were a Choral Music Teacher at Maret School. From 2008 to 2012, they worked at Two Rivers Public Charter School where they served as a Preschool - 8th Grade General Music Teacher and later as a K/1 Lead Teacher. Their professional journey began with Teach For America in 2007 where they were a part of the Early Childhood Cohort.

Mike Matlock earned their Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance and Music Education from Eastman School of Music in 2007. Mike furthered their education by obtaining a Master's in Education degree in Early Childhood Education and Teaching from George Mason University in 2009. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in Level 1 from Responsive Classroom and in Birth - 12 Music Education, Early Childhood Education, and Orff Schulwerk Level I & II from various institutions.
