THE ROLE

poppi is seeking an experienced Regulatory and Compliance Specialist to join our dynamic team. This remote role requires a candidate with a technical background in regulatory compliance and certifications in the food industry. This role will be responsible for ensuring that poppi complies with all relevant regulations and laws and will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of our operations and protecting poppi’s reputation.

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

  • Initiate and maintain poppi product certifications as required to support business needs (GFCO, non-GMO project, Nutrastrong, Kosher, Certificates of Free Sale, etc).
  • Review product labels, nutrition panels, claims and specifications to ensure compliance with FDA and certification requirements.
  • Research and substantiate claims, including conducting scientific literature research, extracting relevant information, comprehending findings, coordinating product testing, and creating necessary substantiation documents.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to seamlessly integrate regulatory requirements into product development processes.
  • Interface with suppliers and customers to provide necessary regulatory information and documentation.
  • Work with 3rd party laboratories and internal teams to oversee necessary testing for claim substantiation, development of nutrition panels, and raw material verification of COA compliance. Maintain lab accreditation certificates.
  • Stay current with changes in food manufacturing regulations and standards. Communicate these changes to relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage and implement poppi’s traceability and mock recall program with an emphasis on continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage supplier approval program - schedule, request, and maintain database of existing and potential supplier approval documentation including conducting annual supplier assessment.
  • Review raw material COAs for compliance
  • Advise management on regulatory aspects of product development or lifecycle management
  • Identify risk areas and develop alternative courses of action through scenario planning and development of contingency plans.
  • Travel as needed to support quality initiatives such as new product launches, trials, or to meet other poppi business requirements.

WHAT YOU BRING 

  • Experience working in a high-growth environment where decisions are made swiftly and priorities shift throughout the day.
  • Proven experience in compliance management and regulatory affairs, preferably in the food industry.
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements (cGMP, FSMA, GDP, FDA, CDPH, Prop-65, etc) and industry standards (HACCP, GFSI, GFCO, Kosher, Non-GMO, etc).
  • Knowledge of domestic and international regulations and requirements.
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and research skills to interpret complex regulations and apply them to Poppi.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote, home-office environment.

YOUR BACKGROUND 

  • 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance, preferably in the food industry.
  • Experience in navigating and interpreting international regulatory frameworks and guidelines.
  • Technical degree in food science, biology, agriculture, meat science, or related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Netsuite (preferred), and PowerBI (preferred).

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to travel up to 25% by plane and car to domestic or international sites.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Some lifting and the movement of moderate loads require 50-pound lifting requirement.
  • Willingness to work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, based on business demands.

COMPENSATION: Our comprehensive compensation package plays a big part in how we recognize you for the impact you have on our path to achieving our mission. For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $85,000 - $95,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified.
