Maria Dieter has a diverse work experience across various organizations. Maria started their career as a Campout! Carolina Intern at EarthShare North Carolina in 2011 before working as a Receptionist at the American Dance Festival in 2012. In 2014, they interned at Scholars at Risk, where they reviewed applications from threatened scholars and conducted research on human rights and academic freedom concerns. Later that year, they interned as a Communications Intern at the International Crisis Group, where they served as the first point of contact for journalists and compiled daily Op/Ed briefings.

Maria joined Population Services International in 2015 as an Assistant, External Relations and Communications, where they managed the organization's blog and provided administrative support for external relations and individual fundraising efforts.
