Derrick Chan

Director Of Rail & Capital Programs at Broward County Government

Derrick Chan is an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in rail and transportation projects. Currently serving as the Director of Rail & Capital Programs for Broward County Government since July 2015, Derrick oversees policy and program development for the rail division, managing a multi-billion dollar surtax Rail and BRT program. Formerly, Derrick worked as a Transit Rail Engineer, implementing the Modern Streetcar and Light Rail Program for Broward County. Derrick's prior experience includes serving as a Senior Project Engineer at Parsons Corporation, where responsibilities included design management for Florida's first modern streetcar project, and a long tenure at the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, specializing in rail systems and transit facilities. Derrick began their career in transportation engineering with positions at Caltrans and Sverdrup Engineering. Derrick holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University and an Associate of Science from City College of San Francisco.
