Maia Shanklin Roberts has a background in affordable housing development and real estate transactions. Maia began their career as a Law Clerk at Klein Hornig LLP in 2013 and later served as an Associate at Bocarsly Emden Cowan Esmail & Arndt LLP. From 2017 to 2022, they worked as a Senior Associate at Ballard Spahr LLP, focusing on complex affordable housing development projects. Currently, Maia is the Vice President of Real Estate Development, Mid-Atlantic at the Preservation of Affordable Housing, managing the redevelopment of the Barry Farm property in Southeast Washington, DC, as part of the District's New Communities Initiative. Maia represents POAH before regulatory boards and evaluates other potential development opportunities.
Maia Shanklin Roberts completed their Bachelor's degree in Urban Studies/Affairs from Stanford University in 2007. Maia then pursued a Master's in Community Planning with a focus on Social Planning at the University of Maryland from 2009 to 2011. Finally, they earned their Doctor of Law (JD) degree at American University Washington College of Law from 2011 to 2015.
