Director of Innovation & R&D at Primal Kitchen

Megan Cleveland has a diverse background in the food industry, with a focus on research and development, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance. Megan started their career at Starbucks Coffee Company as an R&D/QA/Regulatory Assistant, where they analyzed nutrition facts and reviewed labels for FDA compliance. After this, they worked at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo as a Graduate Research Assistant, conducting independent lab research experiments in microbiology and chemistry techniques.

Megan then joined Earthbound Farm as a Food Technologist, where they created nutritionals, verified regulatory compliance, and assisted in innovation efforts. At Natren, Inc., they served as a QA/Research Scientist, overseeing R&D for probiotic supplements and managing technical documents and records.

In their role as R&D/QA Manager at Crunchies Food Company, Megan developed and managed the Quality Assurance and R&D programs for freeze-dried products, ensuring regulatory compliance and labeling.

Currently, Megan works at Primal Kitchen (Primal Nutrition, LLC) as the Director of Innovation & R&D. Megan previously served as the Director of QA & Innovation, leading the development and implementation of QA programs for the Primal Kitchen food brand. Megan has also collaborated with KraftHeinz teams and Primal Nutrition C-suite executives, undertaking new product innovation, product development, project management, packaging/label development, and regulatory activities.

Megan Cleveland earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science & Nutrition from Central Washington University, where they studied from 2004 to 2006. Megan later pursued a Master of Science degree in Agriculture, specializing in Dairy Products Technology, at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo from 2007 to 2011. In addition to their formal education, Megan received certifications in FSVP (Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance) and PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) from the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance.
