Somto Randy Obi

Somto Randy Obi, MD, currently serves as a Founder Fellow in Healthcare at Primary Venture Partners and as a Provider Coverage Psychiatrist at Talkiatry, where support is provided for psychiatrists. Obi is an active member of the Council on Healthcare Systems and Financing within the American Psychiatric Association and has also received the APA SAMHSA Minority Fellowship, aimed at promoting culturally sensitive psychiatric services for underserved minority populations. As a member of the ISSP Communications Committee and podcast co-host for the International Society for Sports Psychiatry, efforts are made to increase awareness of mental health in sports. Additionally, Obi founded Melanin Doc, a nonprofit platform dedicated to increasing minority representation in medicine, and has developed initiatives like the Melanin Doc Scholarship and Melanindocs.com. Obi completed a Psychiatry Residency Program at Baylor College of Medicine from 2019 to 2023 and holds an MD from The University of Texas Medical Branch, along with a BS in Biology from Baylor University.
