Academic Lead

Full-time · CA, United States of America

Job description

About Primer

Fixing our K-12 education system is a civilizationally-important problem. We believe that all of our problems — including the ones that dominate the headlines — are downstream of education.

We have a simple thesis on how to solve it: empower 1,000's of educators to launch microschools in their communities.

We believe the historical tradeoff between price (tuition) and quality is a false dichotomy.

PrimerOS automates and eliminates much of the costs of traditional schools. Microschools have a structural advantage — asset-light real estate — which means much lower capex and opex. You put it together, and you get something that's never existed before: a world-class education that's accessible to normal American families and can rapidly scale.

About the Role

As the Academic Lead, you will set the standard for programmatic excellence across all 23 Primer microschools. Your experience in curriculum development and a variety of schools settings have equipped you to direct the academic program and the systems that enable students to master math and literacy as determined by NWEA MAP. Every day, you will commit to ensure Primer's "take kids seriously" culture is consistent across all campuses and be responsible for fulfilling the goal that all Primer students can pursue their passion.

  • Manage the Curriculum Team, Education Operations Lead, and Campus Leads
  • Lead Staff Training, including summer professional development, virtual teacher training, curriculum team training, and ongoing Microschool Leader development
  • Collaborate with Product Design team to develop the Primer Operating System and other relevant product

  • Big Picture Thinking: Ability to view a problem from a macro organization-wide perspective, then dive into the details

  • Passion for creating culturally align workplaces
  • Flexibility: Ability to work in a changing environment; Preferred experience in a high-growth environment or start-up
  • Execution: Proven track record of taking a project from initial idea to complete resolution of problem with attention to detail and ongoing performance reviews
