Joey Lai has a diverse range of work experience in various analytical and research roles. Starting in 2010, Joey worked as a Research Assistant at Brigham Young University, Department of Finance. In 2012, Joey worked as a Research Assistant at Harvard University, Department of Statistics, where they collected information on financial transactions and assisted in writing and editing lecture notes. From 2013 to 2014, Joey was a Doctoral Research Assistant at Georgia State University, conducting research on corporate policies and developing models to measure information risk in stock trading.

Joey's next position was as a Summer Intern at FXCM in 2015, where they traded foreign currency pairs and led a team in collecting daily news and preparing reports on trading strategies. In 2016, Joey joined PrivCo as a Data Analyst, managing data products, supervising a research team, and leading financial modeling and data expansion projects. They were promoted to Senior Data Analyst in 2017, where they initiated a valuation project, developed a scoring system for private companies, and expanded the productivity model. Joey's most recent role at PrivCo is as an AVP, Lead Data Analyst, a position they have held since 2021. In this role, they co-manage data products, supervise the research team, and lead various financial modeling and data expansion projects.

Joey Lai's education history begins in 2008 when they attended The University of Toledo and studied mathematics for one year. In 2009, they transferred to Brigham Young University and pursued a Bachelor of Science in Economics, a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, and a minor in Mathematics. Joey completed their undergraduate degree in 2013. Following that, Joey enrolled at Georgia State University - J. Mack Robinson College of Business, where they pursued a Master of Science in Finance. During this time, they also began working towards a PhD in Finance but later dropped out. Joey completed their Master's degree in Finance in 2016. Joey's education journey continued as they joined The University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2020. Joey is currently pursuing a dual degree, an MBA and MS in Computer Science, with an expected completion year of 2023.
