Dan Abrahams

Vice President, Policy & Governance & Chief Legal Officer at Professional Engineers Ontario

Dan Abrahams has a diverse work experience spanning over several organizations. Dan began their career as a Research Lawyer at Legal Aid Ontario in 1991. From 1994 to 2002, they worked at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, where they held the position of Senior Counsel and ADR team lead. In this role, they represented the Tribunal's interests, conducted hearings, prepared submissions, and supervised mediation efforts.

In 2002, Abrahams joined the Law Society of Ontario and held several managerial positions. As the Manager of Trustee Services, they managed a team responsible for the protection and distribution of client funds and property. Dan also oversaw the Law Society's unclaimed trust fund. Later, as the Manager of the Compensation Fund, they reviewed and processed applications for grants to compensate for losses due to licensee dishonesty. Dan worked closely with a committee to develop new guidelines and improve the decision-making process.

Abrahams joined Professional Engineers Ontario in 2019 and has since taken on various leadership roles. Dan served as the General Counsel/Senior Legal Counsel and then as the Vice President of Legislation and Policy. Currently, they hold the title of Vice President, Policy & Governance & Chief Legal Officer. In these positions, Abrahams has been responsible for legal and policy matters, ensuring compliance, and providing guidance on regulatory issues.

Throughout their career, Abrahams has demonstrated expertise in legal counsel, regulatory compliance, team management, and policy development within the professional and legal sectors.

Dan Abrahams attended the University of Toronto from 1979 to 1986, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in History and Political Science. Subsequently, from 1986 to 1989, they enrolled at the University of Windsor and earned a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree. Additionally, they obtained the LL.B., Barrister and Solicitor certification from The Law Society of Upper Canada.
