Thomas Kenyon

Thomas Kenyon is the current Director at Project HOPE. Prior to their current position, Kenyon served as the Principal Deputy Global AIDS Coordinator and Chief Medical Officer for the U.S. Department of State from June 2006 to December 2008. In this role, they played a leadership role in supporting Ambassador Mark Dybul, US Global AIDS Coordinator, and the USG inter-agency team to roll out PEPFAR's HIV/AIDS programs and support field operations in 15 priority countries during years 2-5.

From January 2009 to September 2015, Kenyon was the Director of the Center for Global Health at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role, they oversaw CDC's global health work by the Division of Global HIV/TB, Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria, Division of Global Health Protection, and Global Immunization Division - nearly 4,000 staff in 50 countries, annual budget of ~$4 billion.

Prior to their role at the CDC, Kenyon served as the CDC Country Director in Namibia from July 1994 to June 2006. In this role, they were responsible for leading the CDC's country office in Namibia and overseeing all CDC activities in the country.

Before their work in Namibia, Kenyon served as the Director of the Communicable Disease Division at the Chicago Department of Public Health from July 1993 to June 1994. In this role, they were responsible for leading the Communicable Disease Division and overseeing all communicable disease prevention and control activities in Chicago.

Thomas Kenyon's educational career includes a MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in International Public Health/International Health, an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a Pediatrics Residency from the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson in the Pediatrics Residency Program, and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Medicine. Thomas also has a BS from Indiana University Bloomington in Zoology/Animal Biology. Thomas is certified from the American Academy of Pediatrics in Pediatric Medicine.
