Adam Sun

Vice President, Research & Development at Prolacta Bioscience

Adam Sun, Ph.D. has over 30 years of work experience in the biotechnology and healthcare industries. Adam has held various leadership roles in research and development, product development, and technical operations.

Starting in 1989, Adam worked as a Senior R&D Technician at Baxter International Inc., where they assisted in developing and qualifying cardiovascular devices. Adam also improved the manufacturing process for Duraflo\uf0e2II heparin and evaluated cardiovascular devices through animal testing.

Adam then transitioned to Baxter Healthcare Corporation in 1997, where they initially served as a Process Development Engineer. Adam managed and completed process development for reducing virus contamination in blood-based products, as well as coordinated all aspects of plasma-derived Factor VIII manufacturing process technology transferring. Later, they became a Project Engineer, responsible for developing experimental designs and optimizing process assessment. Adam eventually became a Manager II, Engineering, overseeing engineering projects and managing a team of engineers and associates.

In 2005, Adam joined Abbott as a Project Group Lead, providing engineering supervision and technical leadership for drug-eluting stent development projects. Adam managed a staff of 10 engineers/technicians and coordinated resources to ensure program objectives were met.

After their tenure at Abbott, Adam returned to Baxter Healthcare Corporation in 2006 as a Technical Director of the Plasma Fractionation Business Unit. Adam directed scientific and technical activities within the Fractionation manufacturing business unit and developed engineers and associates to become process experts. Adam later became the Technical Director of Plasma Teardown/Fractionation Business Unit.

From 2014 to 2019, Adam worked at Prolacta Bioscience, where they held several senior director roles. Adam was responsible for product and process development, including the development of Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMO) products and scalable manufacturing processes. Adam also led teams in new product development, optimization, technology transfer, and validation.

Adam's most recent role was as the Vice President of Research & Development at Prolacta Bioscience, which they held from January 2019 onwards. In this position, they continued overseeing research and development initiatives and played a key role in writing the CMC section of IND submission.

Throughout their career, Adam Sun, Ph.D. has demonstrated expertise in product and process development, project management, technical leadership, and staff development.

Adam Sun, Ph.D. completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Triple Majors) from UC Irvine, from 1984 to 1989. Adam then pursued a Master of Science degree in Biochemical Engineering at UC Irvine, from 1992 to 1994. Finally, they obtained their Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from UC Irvine, from 1994 to 1997.
