John M. Shields has a long and varied career in the legal and research fields. John M. began their career in 1989 as a Research Associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. In 1990, they became a Senior Research Analyst at SAIC, where they consulted senior U.S. Government decision-makers on national defense and technology planning policies, weapons proliferation, acquisition strategies, foreign military-industrial cooperation, and export controls. From 1995 to 1999, Shields was a Senior Research Fellow at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, studying nuclear weapons security and arms reduction treaty compliance in Russia and other former Soviet republics. John M. then moved to Fenwick & West, where they were a Corporate Attorney specializing in mergers and acquisitions, venture finance and public securities offerings. In 2004, Shields became a Corporate Partner at Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth, representing a broad range of clients in biotechnology, digital media, computing, manufacturing and consumer retail industries. Finally, in 2015, they established the Legal Department at Prolacta Bioscience, Inc. as the Vice President Legal Affairs, General Counsel & Secretary, where they have been supporting vital product sales and R&D pipelines, negotiating complex commercial agreements with clinical partners, CMOs/CROs, hospital systems and GPOs, including US Government customers. John M. has also managed strategic capital-raising, M&A and commercial transactions, including securities offerings, joint ventures, credit facilities and contract manufacturing/supply chain agreements.
John M. Shields attended Harvard School (Harvard-Westlake) from 1978 to 1984. John M. then attended Sherborne School from 1984 to 1985. After that, they attended Stanford University from 1985 to 1989, where they obtained a B.A. in Political Science & Philosophy. Finally, they attended the University of Virginia School of Law from 1996 to 1999, where they obtained a J.D. in Law.
