Although primarily focused on dealership and repair services management, Derek also had some coursework in other subjects. In 2014, they took some introductory coursework in Quantum Science at Chapman University. In 2015, they were enrolled at Liberty University, where they pursued coursework in Emergency Management with a focus on Crisis/Emergency/Disaster Management.

To further enhance their skills, Derek obtained additional certifications throughout their career. In 1994, they received CPR certification from the American Red Cross. In 2005, they became a Team Building Specialist Certified by Toys"R"Us. In 2011, they gained an Internal Conveyance Certification (Motorized Equipment Driver) from Toyota Motor Corporation. Derek also obtained the ASE Section 609 - Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling certification from Universal Technical Institute in 2014. In 2015, they earned a Certificate of Excellence - Technical Customer Handling from Ford Motor Company and an Advanced Customer Service and Sales certification from Performance Bicycle. Derek also obtained the Spin Doctor - CAT 1 certification from Performance Bicycle.

More recently, Derek has pursued further education in Python - Basic Automation Programming from Udemy.com in 2021. Additionally, they obtained several certifications including the CCR Title 8 - Industrial Forklifts, Rough Terrain - Certified Operator certification from Facility Management Group (FMG) in 2021, the HASSA Certification from 360training in 2021, and the IFTA Quarterly Filing: C1 certification from JJ KELLER & ASSOCIATES INC HEALTH AND WELFARE BENEFIT TRUST in 2021. Most recently, they obtained the TRUST Recreational UAS Safety Certification from the Academy of Model Aeronautics in 2022.
