Saira Afzal

Saira Afzal started their work experience as a Research Assistant at Åbo Akademi in May 2012 and worked there until March 2013. Saira then joined Turun yliopisto - University of Turku as a Research Assistant for three months from March 2013 to June 2013. From July 2013 to May 2017, they worked as a PHD Researcher at DKFZ German Cancer Research Center. After that, they became a Post-doctoral Scientist at the same organization and worked until January 2020. In 2017, they also began working at GeneWerk as a Bioinformatics Scientist and their employment there is ongoing. Most recently, in January 2022, they joined ProtaGene as a Senior Manager Data Analysis.

Saira Afzal obtained their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD degree in Bioinformatics with a focus on Gene Therapy and Computational Immunology from Heidelberg University. Saira attended Heidelberg University from 2013 to 2017. Prior to that, they completed their Master's of Bioinformatics degree at Turun yliopisto - University of Turku from 2011 to 2013. Additionally, they have obtained the DevOps Foundation Certification from the DevOps Institute in November 2017.
