Nick Medhurst

Good Clinical Trials Collaborative Lead at Protas

Nick Medhurst has a diverse work experience spanning over a decade. Nick started their career as a Teacher of English at IELTS Official in 2010. Nick then worked as a Media Relations Assistant and Public Affairs Assistant at Breakthrough Breast Cancer in 2011. Nick also had a role as a Project Assistant & Field Researcher at The Campaign Company during the same period. In 2012, they worked as a Special Projects Officer at Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

From 2013 to 2020, Nick held various positions at the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, including Policy Officer, Policy Manager, Head of Policy, and eventually becoming the Head of Policy & Public Affairs. During their time there, they played a crucial role in policy development, government affairs, and advocacy for access to medicines and clinical trials. Nick was also actively involved in supporting lung transplantation, palliative and end-of-life care programs, and promoting digital innovation in healthcare. Nick was a member of NHS England's Specialised Respiratory CRG and the Vice-President of CF Europe.

In 2020, Nick joined the Wellcome Trust as a Policy and Advocacy Manager for the Good Clinical Trials Collaborative team. Nick led policy and advocacy strategies to support excellence in the design, delivery, and reporting of randomised clinical trials globally. This project aimed to promote scientific principles and stimulate the proliferation of simpler, more agile, reliable, informative, safe, and ethical clinical trials. The Collaborative was a partnership between Wellcome, the Gates Foundation, and the African Academy of Sciences.

Most recently, Nick joined Protas in 2022 as the Good Clinical Trials Collaborative Lead. Nick'srole involves leading a team to support excellence in the design, delivery, and reporting of randomised clinical trials globally. Their objective is to promote scientific principles and encourage the adoption of simpler, more agile, reliable, informative, safe, and ethical clinical trials in any intervention and setting.

Nick Medhurst completed their Bachelor of Arts in Politics with Honors (2:1) at the University of Nottingham from 2006 to 2009. Nick also recently pursued an Executive MBA at the Quantic School of Business and Technology from 2020 to 2021.
