Torben Thordsen

Partner at Proterra Partners

Mr. Thordsen is a partner of Proterra Investment Partners and serves as a member of its Management Committee. In addition, Mr. Thordsen oversees the Black River CPF Metals and Mining Fund. The private equity fund makes investments in the metals and mining sector.

Prior to Proterra, Mr. Thordsen worked for Black River Asset Management, a division of Cargill, where he served as a Senior Managing Director for its metals and mining sector-focused private equity funds. Prior to joining Black River, he served as a Partner for Argent Partners, an independent corporate finance advisory firm focused on strategic advisory to the metals and mining sector. Previously, he worked for Gensec Bank in London/Johannesburg, worked in Billiton plc’s corporate finance department where he worked on several global acquisitions, and qualified as a Chartered Accountant whilst working for Coopers & Lybrand. In addition to his investment management experience at Black River, Mr. Thordsen’s career includes investment banking and corporate finance experience, primarily gained in the metals and mining sector, and he has led and participated in a number of mergers and acquisitions, strategic advisory and asset disposal transactions globally.

Mr. Thordsen holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg. He speaks English, German, and Afrikaans.
