Joshua Engel (he/him)

Joshua Engel has a diverse work experience in the legal field. Joshua is currently serving as the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel at Proterra Inc since June 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Deputy General Counsel at the same company from May 2021 to July 2023.

Before joining Proterra, Joshua worked at Neustar, Inc. for a significant period of time. Joshua started as an Associate General Counsel in September 2010 and later became the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel in May 2017. In this role, they managed the Commercial Legal Team, provided commercial counseling, and advised on various privacy laws and industry self-regulation.

From July 2008 to September 2010, Joshua had their own practice called Engel Law, P.C., where they primarily served as External Counsel to tech companies in the Washington D.C. area and Silicon Valley.

Previously, they worked as the Vice President, Associate General Counsel at Sonic Solutions (formerly Roxio, Inc.) from December 2004 to July 2008. Joshua was responsible for all commercial work and played a key role in the acquisition and relaunch of Napster as a legal music subscription service.

Before that, Joshua served as the Director of Legal Affairs at Roxio, Inc./Napster LLC from February 2002 to December 2004. Joshua started their professional career as a Legal Intern at Sun Microsystems in 1997.

Throughout their career, Joshua's roles have involved significant legal responsibilities and strategic counseling for various companies in the technology industry.

Joshua Engel (he/him) began their education at the International School of Geneva from 1985 to 1989, where they completed their High School degree. Following this, from 1989 to 1993, they attended Vassar College, where they earned their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a focus on Sociology/Political Science. After a gap, they pursued further studies from 1995 to 1999 at the University of San Francisco, where they obtained a combined Juris Doctor (JD) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree, although their field of study during this period is not specified.
