Rebecca Malott has a wealth of work experience in the biotechnology and health sciences fields. Rebecca began their career in 2007 as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, under Dr. Scott Gray-Owen. During their time there, they managed collaborations with scientists from multiple disciplines and authored a peer-reviewed manuscript published in a high-level scientific journal. In 2010, they became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Child and Family Research Institute at the University of British Columbia, under Dr. David Speert. During their time there, they designed and executed experiments, delivering publishable results, and presented their findings at international meetings.
In 2013, Rebecca joined Sanofi Pasteur as a Scientist in Analytical Research and Development. Rebecca applied their scientific expertise to design, develop, and validate analytical test methods to support new vaccine products, and served as a subject matter expert for viral adventitious agents detection by compendial and molecular methodologies. Rebecca also represented and managed the analytical function within global new vaccine project teams, balancing a project portfolio of up to 3 new vaccine products simultaneously.
In 2019, Rebecca moved to the University of Calgary as a Program Manager for the W21C Research and Innovation Centre. In this role, they managed a team of multidisciplinary research staff while providing guidance and oversight for diverse research projects, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders in academia, industry, and the public sector. Rebecca also served as a Translational Specialist for the Hunter Hub for Entrepreneurial Thinking, where they fostered interdisciplinary collaborations and built connections between University of Calgary innovators and local and international mentors, researchers, and resources.
In 2022, Rebecca joined Providence Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist. Rebecca is currently the CMC Lead for a mRNA vaccine product, entering Phase III clinical trials, and manages a diverse team of research staff, providing guidance and oversight.
Rebecca Malott has obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbiology and Infectious Disease from the University of Calgary and a Baccalaureate in Science (BSc) in Microbiology from the University of Guelph. In addition, they have obtained The Practice of Coaching: An Introduction to Positioning Others certification from Roy Group Leadership in November 2021.
