James Bates is an experienced educator and professional with a strong background in teaching, research, and outdoor instruction. Currently a teacher at East Rochester High School since February 2017, Bates also serves as a Graduate Research Assistant at St. Bonaventure University, a position held since August 2015. As a PSIA-certified ski instructor since November 2013, Bates guides adventure groups of varying ages. Additionally, Bates has been a land surveyor at Grover and Bates Associates since May 2009, taking on roles as both a field crew leader and office manager. Formerly, Bates held the position of Chief Umpire at East Rochester Little League from May 2011 to August 2014. Bates holds a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Teaching, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from St. Bonaventure University, and an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Finger Lakes Community College.
