Marie Chia has a diverse work experience in various roles related to public health and research. Marie started their career as an Assistant Director of Research Programs at the National Cancer Institute of Canada, where they were responsible for allocating research funds and providing research syntheses to cancer-related organizations. Marie then served as the Director of the Canadian Tobacco Control Research Initiative, leading a team in managing grant programs and initiatives for tobacco control research. Marie also worked as an Analyst at the Library of the Canadian Parliament, providing research and analysis services on science and health-related issues to parliamentarians. Marie'smost recent positions include Senior Policy Advisor/Manager and Director at the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, where they played a crucial role in delivering annual reports, providing policy analyses, and identifying strategic opportunities for public health initiatives. Throughout their career, Marie has demonstrated strong leadership, administrative skills, and expertise in the field of public health.

Marie Chia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from McMaster University, earned between 1991 and 1995. Marie then pursued a Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Colon Cancer Development at the University of Toronto from 1997 to 1999. Marie furthered their education by obtaining a Ph.D. in Cancer Gene Therapy from the University of Toronto between 1999 and 2006. Marie also completed a Master of Public Health degree in Public Health at the University of Waterloo from 2009 to 2011. Additionally, Marie pursued post-graduate studies at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, U. of London, earning a Post-Graduate Diploma in Infectious Diseases during the 2005-2006 academic year. Marie also obtained a Certificate in Community Based Research from the Wellesley Institute in 2006.
