Joy Johnson

Consultant at Public Sector Consultants

Like many detail‐oriented people, Joy relies on and values a systems‐oriented approach to take on tasks. While she appreciates the discipline and reliability this approach brings, she also really revels in the opportunity to take creative liberties within the rules to problem solve and find better outcomes. So it’s no surprise to discover that the kitchen — where detailed instructions and creativity comingle — is one of her happy places, where she can intuit when to bend or break the baking rules to whip up the most crowd‐pleasing carrot cake. Even the inevitable baking fail does not get her down, because she knows that she can take what she’s learned from the attempt and apply it to her next endeavor.

She brings this creative and resilient mindset to her role as a consultant on the energy and environment team at PSC, where some of her main duties include writing proposals, conducting stakeholder interviews, and providing project team support in multiple areas. She also facilitates workgroup and external coalition building meetings, along with interdisciplinary work for other PSC teams, including health and talent and economics. She appreciates the opportunity to create effective project deliverables for clients, and to brainstorm innovative solutions for energy equity and community development across the state.

Prior to joining PSC, Joy served as a legislative aide to the Michigan Legislature, providing community development outreach, policy research, and constituent relations services for state residents. She also has a background in the areas of campaign field directing, urban education, nonprofit capacity building, and higher education.
