Lead Designer, AI Spotlight Series at Pulitzer Center

Karen Hao is a seasoned journalist and designer specializing in technology and society. Currently serving as the Lead Designer for the AI Spotlight Series at the Pulitzer Center since April 2024, Karen has contributed as a writer for The Atlantic and reported on China tech and society for The Wall Street Journal from April 2022 to August 2023. Additionally, Karen held fellowships at Harvard's Belfer Center and MIT as a Technology and Public Purpose Fellow and Knight Science Journalism Fellow, respectively. Karen's extensive editorial experience includes roles at MIT Technology Review, where Karen was a Senior AI Editor and Senior AI Reporter, and Quartz as a Junior Data Scientist. Karen began the career in editorial roles at Mother Jones and Sierra Club and served as an Application Engineer at Flux Data Inc. Karen Hao holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated from The Lawrenceville School.
