Innis Barton's work experience begins in 1997 as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Southern California. From 2000 to 2002, Barton worked as an Accountant/Analyst at C-2 Pictures, where responsibilities included preparing financial statements and conducting budgetary analyses. Starting in 2003, Barton joined Maritz as a Senior Project Accountant, budgeting and forecasting live events and web-based information systems primarily for the automotive industry. At Maritz, Barton also partnered with the Assistant Director of Project Accounting to develop a training plan for new hires. From 2009 to 2014, Barton worked at Phoenix House, first as a Project Accountant/Billing Coordinator, assisting in testing and rolling out an Electronic Health Record system, and later as a Regional EHR Trainer, implementing the Welligent EHR system across multiple regions. At Phoenix House, Barton also created quick reference guides and managed staff during system go-live periods. Barton then joined MedOptions in 2014 as an EHR Trainer and later became the Manager of Training and Development, overseeing the implementation of an Electronic Health Record system across multiple facilities and standardizing training programs. Barton's most recent position is at PursueCare, where they have held roles as Assistant Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Healthcare Operations, and currently serves as the Chief of Staff.

Innis Barton's education history begins in 1991, where they attended Rhode Island College. They completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, both of which were earned between 1991 and 1996. Following this, Innis Barton pursued further education at the University of Southern California, where they obtained a Master of Arts degree in Critical Studies. This degree was attained between 1996 and 2002.

In addition to their academic achievements, Innis Barton has also obtained several certifications. In 2014, they became a Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Instructor through the Crisis Prevention Institute. In 2016, Innis Barton obtained a Relias Learning Management System Level 1 Certification from Relias Learning. Two years later, they acquired the Relias Learning Management Level II Advanced Certification from the same institution in 2017.
