Head Of Conservation | Mathaf: Arab Museum Of Modern Art at Qatar Museums Authority

Stefani Kavda has a diverse work experience in the field of conservation and academia. Stefani currently holds the position of Head of Conservation at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art within Qatar Museums, starting in May 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Conservation Coordinator in the Exhibitions Department at Qatar Museums from September 2022 to May 2023. Additionally, they worked as an Academic Expert at AcademiaOne, providing educational support services, and later served as the Recruitment Director from June 2022 to January 2023. Stefani has also gained experience as an Objects Conservator at the Lusail Museum within Qatar Museums and as a Visiting Lecturer at the Department of Conservation, University of Gothenburg. Stefani has held positions as a Conservation Associate at Barker Langham and as a Postdoctoral Visiting Researcher at Deutsches Museum. Stefani's work within the field of conservation has involved projects related to method development and research proposals. Stefani has been involved in various roles, such as a Doctoral Researcher at UCL and an Associate Conservator for the 9th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art. Additionally, they have interned as a conservator at Fondazione PLART and Die Neue Sammlung - The International Design Museum Munich / Pinakothek der Moderne.

Stefani Kavda completed their education history in a chronological manner. In 2005, they attended the University of West Attica (formerly Technological Educational Institution of Athens) and pursued a degree in Objects Conservator, specializing in organic and inorganic materials. This program lasted until 2011.

In 2008, Stefani participated in the Erasmus program at the Academy of Fine Arts in Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen, Belgium. During their time there, they focused on Conservation and Restoration Courses, specifically in metals and glass conservation studios. This Erasmus program concluded in 2009.

From 2012 to 2014, Stefani attended UCL Qatar and pursued a Master of Science (MS) degree in Art Conservation Studies. Their studies in this program concentrated on various aspects related to the conservation of artworks. Furthermore, in 2012, they participated in a 2-month Seminar on Modern and Contemporary Art at the Museum of Cycladic Art, Goulandri.

Most recently, Stefani completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Conservation Science at UCL from 2015 to 2020. This rigorous program focused on advanced research and study within the field of conservation science.

In addition to their formal education, Stefani also attended a 3-month Seminar on Curating Contemporary Art at AKTO Art & Design college in an unspecified year, which they completed before 2011.
