Jamie Hill has a diverse work experience in the field of engineering. They started their career at the University of Leicester, where they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering with Honors in Aerospace Engineering. During this time, they conducted a final year project focusing on thermal stress in ceramic adhesives.
After graduating, Jamie joined the Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) organization in 2013 as a DESG Graduate Engineer Trainee. In this role, they gained experience in different areas of the business, including cost assurance and analysis and the Chinook Project Team. They were responsible for developing a cost model to project future support costs for a fleet of Army helicopters.
Jamie then progressed to various engineering management roles within DE&S. As the Engineering Manager for Chinook Structures and Airframes, they handled airworthiness issues, managed environmental damage issues, and implemented strategies to mitigate risk. They also led a component life validation program and managed a network of international stakeholders.
In 2019, Jamie became the Engineering Manager for Puma2Gazelle Delivery Team, overseeing the Puma HC Mk2 role equipment and responsible for LoAA approval of avionic and propulsion aspects. They also served as the Typhoon Electrical Systems Lead, where they led a team in delivering in-service support, qualification and certification, and engineering solutions for Typhoon Electrical Systems.
Currently, Jamie works at QinetiQ as a Principal Systems Engineer, serving as a Project Engineer in the Helicopters portfolio. They lead a multidisciplinary team to deliver certification, configuration, and safety management support for Apache AH-64E. Their role involves developing innovative solutions to meet customer needs and tailoring systems, processes, and tools for design change, certification, and configuration management.
