Shirin Kalyan

Vice President, Scientific Innovation at Qu Biologics Inc.

Shirin Kalyan has had a varied and impressive career in scientific innovation, research and development. Shirin began their career in 2011 as a Humboldt Fellow / Investigator at Kiel University (CAU). In 2014, they joined Qu Biologics Inc. as Vice President of Scientific Innovation and later became Director of Scientific Innovation and Director of Preclinical & Translational Research. That same year, they were also appointed Visiting Scientist (translational research) at the Department of Medical Genetics, University of British Columbia. In 2015, they joined The University of British Columbia as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Medicine and Co-Director of BC CaMos (Canadian Multicentre Osteoporosis Study). In 2017, they were appointed Scientist at the Centre for Health Evaluation and Outcome Sciences. In 2019, they became Lead Scientist of the Clinical Research Development Laboratory (CRSU) at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and Chief Scientific Officer at the Rare Disease Foundation.

Shirin Kalyan has a long and impressive education history. Shirin started with a BSc in Immunology and Microbiology from The University of British Columbia in 1995-1999. Shirin then completed their PhD in Experimental Medicine, Immunology from the same university in 1999-2006. After that, they were a Post-doctoral Fellow in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism from 2006-2010. Finally, they completed a Post-doctoral Fellowship in Immunology at Kiel University in 2010-2012. In 2014, they also became a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) from the Society of Clinical Research Associates.
