Kurt M. Kjelland

Kurt M. Kjelland is the Vice President and Legal Counsel at Qualcomm. Kurt has extensive experience in intellectual property law, having previously worked as a partner at Goodwin Procter LLP. During their time at Goodwin Procter, Kurt led the trial counsel for a multi-national corporation in a patent infringement dispute involving hard disk drive components. Kurt was also responsible for developing and executing a worldwide patenting and portfolio development strategy for a local venture-funded company selling automated prescription delivery systems.

In addition to their work in patent law, Kurt has also advised Fortune 100 clients on IP issues in acquisitions, and has negotiated patent licenses for companies such as an internet marketing company. Kurt has also been a key member of multi-firm teams that have developed non-infringement, claim construction, invalidity and inequitable conduct positions in lawsuits involving CDMA handsets, 3G standards, and 100’s of millions in alleged damages.

Kurt has also been recognized as an IP Litigation Super Lawyer in 2011, 2012, and 2013 by Thompson Reuters.

Kurt M. Kjelland attended Notre Dame Law School, where they received their JD, cum laude. Kurt also holds a B.S. from the University of California, Los Angeles in chemical engineering.
