Mohamed Elshenawy has a diverse range of work experience in the field of scientific research and pharmaceuticals. Mohamed is currently a Staff Scientist at Quantum-Si, where they began in 2021. Prior to this, from 2019 to 2021, they worked as a Senior Scientist at Quantum Biosystems, where they established a biochemistry lab and led biology efforts for the development of a novel single-molecule sequencing platform.
From 2016 to 2019, Mohamed worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UC Berkeley, studying the activity of the human dynein complex and establishing a Baculovirus system for expression and isolation of intracellular transport machinery.
Before that, they were a Ph.D Graduate Research Assistant at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology from 2011 to 2015. During this time, Mohamed optimized and developed biochemical and single-molecule imaging tools to study the activity of the DNA replisome and studied the activity of a new class of DNA polymerases. Mohamed also worked as an MS. Graduate Research Assistant at the same institution from 2009 to 2010, performing biochemical assays and studying conformer isomerization and branch migration of Holliday junction resolvases.
In 2012, Mohamed served as a Visiting Researcher at the University of Wollongong, where they assembled a flow-stretching microscope setup to study leading-strand synthesis by the E. coli replisome.
From 2010 to 2011, they worked as a Research Fellow at Pohang University of Science and Technology, studying substrate recognition and bending of Zinc Finger Protein and training graduate assistants on imaging biological samples using fluorescence microscopy.
Mohamed also has some experience in the medical field, having worked as a Summer Research Intern at Children's Cancer Hospital - Egypt 57357 in 2009, where they reviewed medication protocols and made recommendations for appropriate therapy. Mohamed also worked as a Pharmacist Assistant at El Ezaby Pharmacy in 2008 and as a Summer Research Student at GSK in 2007.
Mohamed Elshenawy started their education journey in 2004 at Ain Shams University, where they pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. After completing their undergraduate studies, they joined KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology) in 2009 to pursue a Master's Degree in Biological and Biomedical Sciences, which they completed in 2011. Building on this foundation, Mohamed then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at KAUST from 2011 to 2015, specializing in Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Molecular Biology.
