Ashley Cruce, MA, LMSW, is an experienced environmental educator and social worker with a strong background in community gardening, cooking instruction, and social work education. Currently serving as an Environmental Educator/Instructor at Queens Botanical Garden since March 2014, Ashley has conducted garden tours and horticultural lessons for diverse groups, including school children and adults. Previous experience includes roles as a Cooking Instructor with Allergic to Salad and as a MAP Garden Consultant with Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement, focused on revitalizing community gardens in Queensbridge Houses. Officially opening as Queens Botanical Garden in 1948 after local residents saved and grew the original exhibit, QBG has become a 39-acre urban oasis in one of the city’s most bustling and diverse neighborhoods. QBG is an urban oasis where people, plants and cultures are celebrated through inspiring gardens, innovative educational programs and real-world applications of environmental stewardship. QBG is located on property owned by the City of New York, and its operation is made possible in part by public funds provided through the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Queens Borough President, the New York City Council, State elected officials, the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, along with corporate, foundation, and individual supporters.
