Otoniel Reyes

Chief of Public Safety at Quinnipiac University

Otoniel Reyes is the current Chief of Public Safety at Quinnipiac University. Otoniel has over 20 years of law enforcement experience, starting as a patrolman for the City of New Haven in January 2000. Otoniel was promoted to Sergeant in 2005 and Lieutenant in 2009. In 2012, Reyes became the Chief of Police for the City of New Haven, a position they held until June 2021 when they took their current role at Quinnipiac University.

Otoniel Reyes graduated from Albertus Magnus College with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice/Police Science. Otoniel then went on to complete a Graduate Certificate in Law Enforcement Administration from the FBI National Academy | Session 269. Afterwards, they completed a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from the University of New Haven in the field of Public Administration. Otoniel also has a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice Education from the University of Virginia. In addition, they are a certified U.S. Department of Homeland Security in ICS 100, 200, 300, & 700 and a certified Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Hostage Negotiator. Otoniel is also a Tow Youth Justice Institute Alumni Fellow from the University of New Haven.

Their manager is Judy D. Olian, President. Otoniel Reyes works with Monique Drucker - VP & Dean of Students, Donald C. Sawyer III - VP for Equity, Inclusion and Leadership Development, and Todd Sloan - VP for Development & Alumni Affairs.
