David Spies

Principal Tuba at Racine Symphony Orchestra

David Spies has a diverse work experience, with roles ranging from Chief Election Inspector at City Clerk, City of Madison, Wisconsin to Lecturer at Carroll University and Marian University of Fond du Lac. David has also worked at various positions in the Madison Public Library system. Additionally, they have served as Principal Tuba in the Racine Symphony Orchestra and as a Tubist in the Yid Vicious Klezmer Ensemble. At the University of Iowa, they were a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. Throughout their career, David has gained expertise in election management, music education, library services, and performing as a tubist.

David Spies earned a Bachelor of Music (Honors) in Music Performance (Tuba) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1991. David then pursued a Master of Music in Music Performance - Tuba from Yale University School of Music from 1991 to 1993. David continued their education at Yale University School of Music and obtained an Artist Diploma in Music Performance - Tuba in 1994. David Spies furthered their studies at the University of North Texas, where they completed a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Performance, with a minor in Wind Instrumental Conducting and a secondary area in Music History from 1994 to 1999. David also engaged in continuing education programs at the City of Madison, Madison Public Library/Goodman Community Center, and Madison College between 2013 and the present.
