Nicholas Alston started their career in the United States Air Force as an RF Transmissions Systems Technician, where they configured and maintained satellite and network links for unmanned aircraft missions. Nicholas then worked at Alliant Networking as a Systems Administrator, providing IT infrastructure support for multiple small to medium-sized businesses. Nicholas then joined Insight Global as a Senior Systems Engineer and later as an Infrastructure Manager, where they designed and implemented automated software development and monitoring platforms. Nicholas then worked at Priority Payment Systems as a Senior Platform Engineer, responsible for managing a highly available software platform and leading infrastructure projects. After that, Nicholas joined the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond as a Senior Automation Engineer, where they designed and developed automation solutions to support infrastructure-as-code applications. Most recently, they worked at Red Hat as a Senior Container Infrastructure Consultant, providing technical support and guidance for OpenShift clusters deployed across various environments. Currently, Nicholas holds the position of Principal Platform Engineer at Raft.
Nicholas Alston attended the Community College of the Air Force from 2007 to 2010, where they obtained an AS degree in Electronics Systems Technology. In addition to their degree, Nicholas Alston has also obtained several certifications. Nicholas completed the Code of Conduct: FAR V2.01 course from Traliant in June 2023. In November 2021, they obtained a certification in Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging from LinkedIn. Nicholas earned the MCITP: Enterprise Administrator on Windows Server 2008 certification from Microsoft in January 2013. In March 2015, Nicholas Alston became a VMware Certified Professional 5 (Data Center Virtualization) after completing the certification course offered by VMware. Lastly, in August 2014, they obtained the Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator certification from The Linux Foundation.
