Toyoyuki Kawakami

Japan Representative, Japan at Rainforest Action Network

Toyo joined RAN in 2005, with a background in Global Trade and Forestry, as well as environmental advocacy. His work includes the analysis of Japan’s role in campaigns to Japanese buyers and financiers of pulp and paper and palm oil sectors to address deforestation and human rights issues in Indonesia. Now He also focuses on Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games sustainability issues to raise awareness of forest issues among the general public. Toyo works to build relationships with other key Japanese players (NGOs, forestry experts, forest certification initiatives, etc) that can lend capacity and bring depth to this work. He earned a doctoral degree in Economics from Kobe University in 2007.
