Michael Smithers

Michael Smithers is an accomplished engineering professional with extensive experience in audio technology and design. Currently serving as the Head of Engineering at Rational Acoustics since September 2025, Michael is also the Founder and Principal of Eclipse Audio since April 2016. Previously, from February 2000 to August 2025, Michael held several key positions at Dolby Australia, including Senior Member of Research Staff, where contributions included loudspeaker design and audio research. Prior experience includes roles as a Senior Research Engineer at Motorola Labs and a Systems Engineer at Electronic Data Systems, Australia. Michael holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering with a focus on digital signal processing from the University of Wollongong.
