Dr Emma Taylor

Head of Digital Safety at RazorSecure

Dr Emma Taylor has a wealth of experience in digital safety and security, engineering, and safety and reliability. Dr Emma currently serves as the Head of Digital Safety at RazorSecure. Prior to this, they were the Royal Academy of Engineering RAEng Visiting Professor at Cranfield University, a role they began in 2022. In this role, they taught postgraduate students through Cranfield University's DARTeC (Digital Aviation Research and Technology Centre) and developed teaching case studies and investigative techniques for digital systems.

From 2015 to 2021, Dr Taylor held a number of roles at the Safety and Reliability Society, including National Council, Board Member and Trustee, and Chair. Dr Emma was also a Principal - Asset Integrity (LHSBR Strategy Implementation) at RSSB from 2015 to 2021, and a Lead System Safety Engineer from 2015 to 2021. Dr Emma was a Professional Registration Assessor / CPD Auditor at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers from 2015 to 2021, a Principal Consultant at ERM: Environmental Resources Management from 2014 to 2021, Operations Manager (London) and Senior Safety Engineer at Safetec Nordic AS from 2011 to 2021, and Project Engineer (Technical Safety) at MMI Engineering from 2009 to 2021.

Prior to this, Dr Taylor was a Lecturer in Physics at The Open University from 2005 to 2009, and a Consultant at the UK Space Agency from 2003 to 2005.

Dr Emma Taylor has an extensive educational history. Dr Emma obtained a B.A. (Hons) in Physics from the University of Oxford in 1993, followed by an M.Sc. in Space Science from UCL in 1994. In 1995, they attended the International Space University Summer Session Programme (SSP). Dr Emma then completed their Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Kent in 1997. In 1998, they attended the Graduate Aerospace Programme at Delft University of Technology. In 2008, they obtained an MSc in Safety Engineering and Risk Management from the University of Aberdeen. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including a Fellow of the Safety and Reliability Society (FSaRS) in 2017, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) in 2017, a Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council in 2014, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS) in 2000, a Member of the Royal Aeronautical Society (MRAeS) in 2009, and a Member of the Institute of Physics (MIoP) in 2009.
