Lead Lean+VDC Manager at Reconstruct

Jacob Je-Chian Lin has held a variety of roles in the construction industry since 2012. In 2012, they were a Visiting Researcher at the University of Washington, where they conducted research on a user-centered construction safety inspection tool and developed and evaluated an iPad application for auditing safety violations in construction sites. Jacob Je-Chian also developed and maintained a fall protection training game developed in Unity 3D for non-English speaking and illiterate construction workers with OSHA. In 2013, they were a Safety Intern at Deacon Construction, LLC, where they were responsible for safety inspections for over 10 projects and conducted site walks on a weekly basis to audit safety violations. Jacob Je-Chian also introduced new technologies to enhance the efficiency of the safety inspection process. From 2014 to 2016, they were a Teaching Assistant and Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. As a Teaching Assistant, they were responsible for giving lectures and workshops, preparing materials for the course, and managing student groups. As a Research Assistant, they conducted and led research on predictive visual data analytics using Computer Vision and Machine Learning techniques for improving performance monitoring, risk analysis and project controls. Jacob Je-Chian also developed construction performance metrics that measure risk around work breakdown structure locations, assess reliability of weekly work plan and master schedule and support root cause assessment on plan failure in task and project level. From 2016 to present, they have been the Lead Lean+VDC Manager and Lead Visualization Engineer at Reconstruct Inc. As Lead Visualization Engineer, they developed the web-based viewer prototype that visualizes point clouds and BIMs in a timeline with a schedule and analyzes the reliability of the Weekly Work Plan in a color-coded model. Jacob Je-Chian also led the development of 4D BIM, schedule updates, planning and visualization, progress tracking app, productivity data analytics, long/short term plans alignment and report generation.

Jacob Je-Chian Lin received their Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from National Taiwan University in 2010. Jacob Je-Chian then went on to obtain their Master of Science in Civil Engineering - Computer-Aided Engineering from the same university. In 2017, they completed a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and in 2020 they finished their Doctor of Philosophy in Construction Management from the same university.
