The AVP, Scientific Services is responsible for planning, development, and oversight of scientific content for an assigned account or accounts across a range of therapeutic areas, addressing different target audiences. Content may be delivered through a variety of print and electronic media outlets, including, articles, slide presentations, executive summaries, eLearning platforms, and Web applications. The AVP, Scientific Services is accountable for providing clients with strategic medical communication recommendations that support the achievement of brand goals in the marketplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assumes full leadership of clinical aspects during strategic planning and project meetings with internal and client teams, gathering information and assessing client expectations on assigned initiatives, connecting science with strategy

  • Plans, develops, writes, and edits materials as assigned. Supervises and mentors other in-house and contract medical writing resources according to project needs, delegating assignments and revising material to ensure consistency and cohesion of scope and message prior to submission to Editorial Services

  • Collaborates with internal and client teams to help identify creative solutions to fulfill client vision and goals; contributes significantly to timeline and resource planning to meet deliverable milestones

  • Takes ownership of client relationship, partnering with account teams to build confidence in MC2 service offerings; exhibits a professional image and demeanor, demonstrating adaptability and dedication to exceptional client service, assisting with resolution of concerns related to assigned areas

  • Conducts research on assigned topics and secures references

  • Partners with internal team and provides onsite support at key client meetings or events

  • Thoroughly edits and revises own work and collaborates to resolve errors or concerns, saving time in editorial review process

  • Completes copy review submission into appropriate platform and joins medical, legal, regulatory review process as needed

  • Maintains a current knowledge of industry trends and standards and key medical topics and terminology in order to serve as a credible resource to internal and client teams

  • Applies creative, critical thinking skills to problem solve in a variety of situations

  • Executes mentorship roles and guidance to junior team members

  • Performs these and other duties as assigned in adherence with the standards and expectations of MC2

About You

  • Advanced degree preferred (PhD, PharmD, MD)

  • 5 years of agency experience preferred

  • Clinical content development and writing experience required, with strategic focus in a healthcare marketing and medical education agency setting

  • Expert writing and editorial skills with a high level of AMA style and medical terminology expertise

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel and, in particular, PowerPoint

  • Familiarity with virtual meeting software (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, GoTo Meeting, Skype for Business, WebEx, Adobe Connect, etc)

  • Proven organizational and timeline prioritization skills; scheduling flexibility to accommodate work volumes and the ability to manage multiple assignments

  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, whenever appropriate

  • Ability to travel overnight for business on an occasional basis (approximately 10%-20%)
