John Courtney is a seasoned Human Resources professional with extensive experience in labour relations and HR management. Currently serving as a Human Resources Business Partner at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo since January 2017, John supports collective agreements, oversees coaching and training for operational leaders, and manages various HR functions such as performance management and disability management in a high-change environment. Prior to this, John held positions at AECOM and Suncor Energy, focusing on employee relations and HR cycles in unionized settings. John’s earlier career includes leadership roles in the Canadian Armed Forces, where responsibilities ranged from team leadership in complex negotiations to operational management and training coordination. Educationally, John holds master's degrees in Labour and Industrial Relations and Management and Policy, alongside a bachelor's degree in Economics from Queen's University.
