Ben Sachs

Ben Sachs has extensive work experience in the field of software engineering and geospatial analysis.

Ben most recently worked at Regrow Ag as a Senior Software Engineer, where they designed and developed data pipelines and APIs to support sustainable agriculture. Ben collaborated with Machine Learning engineers and Data Scientists to implement cutting-edge agricultural models and produce data at scale, using technologies such as Python, Google Cloud, and GIS tools.

Prior to that, Ben worked at Colaberry as a Software Engineer (Analytics Developer), where they developed geospatial applications and workflows to support data science. Ben helped build and deploy cloud-enabled data pipelines and web APIs to process large amounts of satellite and UAV imagery, with the goal of feeding machine learning algorithms. Ben also contributed to the development of software components for data ingestion.

Before that, Ben worked at Paintly, LLC as a Backend Software Engineer, where they were responsible for designing the backend infrastructure and developing algorithms for product creation, including the use of Deep Learning.

Ben also gained extensive experience working at DigitalGlobe as a Senior Geospatial Software Engineer and Staff Software Engineer. In these roles, they led a team of GIS software engineers and developed custom GIS software using open-source and ESRI technologies. Their team designed and built a cataloging and discovery system for DigitalGlobe imagery.

Ben started their career at GeoEye as a Photogrammetric Systems Specialist, where they developed scripts and workflows to automate and optimize vector data production using Python and ESRI.

Ben has also worked as a Teaching Assistant at Appalachian State University, where they assisted a professor in the Geography/Planning Department and evaluated student presentations. Ben also served as a GIS Intern at Watauga County TDA, where they performed GIS analysis, collected primary GIS data, and created cartographic products.

Earlier in their career, Ben worked as a Help Desk Officer at Computerway Food Systems, providing customer support for their programs and systems. Ben also worked as a Technical Assistant at Wake Forest University, where they installed and maintained digital art hardware and software.

Ben Sachs received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Environmental Studies from Wake Forest University, where they attended from 2003 to 2007. Ben then pursued a Master's degree in Geography (with a focus on Geographic Information Systems) at Appalachian State University from 2008 to 2010.
