Joshua van Besouw's work experience begins with a role as a Web Developer at Lima Bean from March 2013 to January 2015. Joshua worked on various web-based projects, primarily focusing on eCommerce sites using PHP, JavaScript, and HTML5. During this time, they led the development of major projects and provided continuous improvement to other projects.
In January 2015, Joshua transitioned to a Team Lead role at Lima Bean where they led a small team of developers. Joshua mentored and trained the team while working on projects such as large eCommerce stores and booking systems. Joshua held this position until July 2016.
Afterwards, Joshua joined Rehive in July 2016 as a Lead Backend Engineer. Joshua played a crucial role in designing, planning, and building the core architecture, APIs, and infrastructure of the Rehive ecosystem. Joshua aggressively optimized and made improvements to the growing range of features until February 2018.
Continuing their journey at Rehive, Joshua became the VP of Engineering in March 2018 while still maintaining their role as the primary backend engineer. In their VP role, they took on additional leadership responsibilities such as managing the development and feature roadmap, task assignment, and collaborating with the team to design, plan, and prioritize upcoming features. Joshua also focused on ensuring the ecosystem's design, understanding, and documentation were up to par.
Joshua van Besouw completed their Bachelor's Degree in Computer Systems from Heriot-Watt University from 2012 to 2014. Prior to that, they attended Cape Peninsula University of Technology from 2010 to 2011, where they studied Emergency Medical Care.
