John Appleby

John Appleby CEM is an experienced emergency management professional currently serving as the Team Leader for Operational Readiness & Response at the National Emergency Management Agency (NZ) since September 2019. In this role, John oversees operational capabilities and the 24/7 duty system for the agency. Previous positions include Principal Advisor for National Operations at NEMA, Response Manager and Senior Response Advisor at the Ministry for Primary Industries, and various instructional and advisory roles in emergency management and training across multiple organizations. John holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Geography, a Master’s Degree in Emergency Management, and a Master of Science in Physical Geography, along with several other relevant qualifications in emergency management and environmental protection.
