Lea Mikkola is a distinguished researcher and consultant in the fields of veterinary genetics and animal science. Currently serving as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Turku Bioscience and the InFLAMES Research Flagship, Lea specializes in single-cell transcriptomics, focusing on immune responses in atherosclerosis. Lea has gained expertise through various roles, including consulting for canine breeding and genetics at Caninegen Tmi and as a K9 breeding specialist for the Guide Dog School of the Finnish Federation of the Visually Impaired. Educationally, Lea holds a PhD in Veterinary Genetics, along with a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Animal Sciences, all from the University of Helsinki. Additional experience includes visiting research fellowships at Karolinska Institutet and prior research roles at Folkhälsan and MTT Agrifood Research Finland.
