Oswaldo Alonso Lozoya

Scientific Computing Principal Investigator at Research Triangle Institute

Oswaldo Alonso Lozoya has a diverse work experience spanning various scientific and research roles. Oswaldo Alonso is currently working as a Scientific Computing Principal Investigator at RTI International since 2022. Prior to this, they served as a Genomics Staff Scientist at Q2 Solutions from 2021 to 2022. In this role, they led the Genomics Division and was responsible for evaluating and implementing genomics and multi-omics platforms and methods.

From 2014 to 2021, Oswaldo worked at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), where they held multiple positions. As a Research Fellow, they conducted experimental research on the role of mitochondrial function and environmental exposures in driving physiological changes through epigenetic means. Oswaldo Alonso also performed computational tasks, including next-gen sequencing and big data analysis. Additionally, as an IRTA Postdoctoral Fellow at NIEHS, Oswaldo conducted experimental and benchtop processing, followed by epigenetic functional profiling and statistical analysis.

Prior to their time at NIEHS, Oswaldo worked as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at Duke University from 2011 to 2014 and as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2011. Oswaldo Alonso started their research career as a Graduate Research Assistant at North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2006 to 2011, focusing on various research projects.

Before entering the field of research, Oswaldo gained industrial experience as a Product Engineer at Delphi from 2005 to 2006. Oswaldo Alonso also worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at The University of Texas at El Paso from 2004 to 2006.

Overall, Oswaldo Alonso Lozoya has developed expertise in scientific research, computational analysis, genomics, and next-gen sequencing, with a focus on understanding the impact of mitochondrial function and environmental exposures on physiological changes through epigenetic means.

Oswaldo Alonso Lozoya holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which they obtained from 2006 to 2011. Prior to that, they completed a Master of Science (MS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso, from 2003 to 2006. Their undergraduate studies also took place at The University of Texas at El Paso, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from 2000 to 2003. In addition to their formal education, Oswaldo has obtained certifications in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), Lean Six Sigma White Belt, and Red X Apprentice (engineering problem solving).
