Senior Vice President, Cardiovascular Health at Resolve To Save Lives

Renu Garg has an extensive background in public health with a focus on noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and HIV/AIDS. Renu currently holds the position of Senior Vice President at Resolve to Save Lives since 2022. Prior to that, they worked at the World Health Organization (WHO) in various roles. From 2016 to 2021, they served as the WHO Representative for Thailand a.i. and Team Leader for Noncommunicable Diseases, where they were responsible for managing relations with the government and development partners, developing programs and budgets, providing strategic advice on COVID-19 response, and advancing partnerships for NCD control.

Before their role in Thailand, Renu Garg was a Regional Advisor for Noncommunicable Diseases at the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia from 2011 to 2016. In this role, they directed and coordinated NCD prevention and control programs across 11 member countries, developed policies and national strategies, and prepared policy briefs and progress reports.

Prior to that, Renu Garg worked as a Medical Officer for HIV/AIDS at the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia Region from 2003 to 2010. Renu'sresponsibilities included mobilizing funding for HIV/AIDS treatment programs, developing health information systems, and providing technical assistance to member countries on implementing HIV/AIDS and STI programs.

Before joining WHO, they worked as a Consultant for Tuberculosis Control at WHO SEARO from 2000 to 2003, providing technical assistance on implementing the Revised National TB Control Programme in India and mentoring TB Research Centre staff.

Renu Garg has also gained experience at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where they worked as a Medical Epidemiologist from 1997 to 2000 in the Child Survival Branch. Renu has also held research and teaching positions at the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, the School of Health Systems Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and Lok Manya Tilak Municipal Medical College.

Renu Garg began their education at Loreto Convent, Mumbai, although the specific dates and degree obtained at this school are unknown. Renu continued their studies at Lok Manya Tilak Municipal Medical College from 1985 to 1992, where they obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Community Medicine. In 1990-1991, they pursued a Diploma in Hospital Administration at Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Later, from 1996 to 1999, Renu pursued their Master's Degree in International Public Health and Epidemiology at Rollins School of Public Health.
