Melissa L. is an experienced data reporter currently working at Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting since January 2019. Previously, Melissa served as a mentor for The Lede Program at Columbia University in the summer of 2019 and held the position of Data Editor at The Oregonian / OregonLive.com from September 2016 to December 2018, where collaboration on data sourcing, analysis, and visualization was key. Other noteworthy roles include freelance journalism for Oregon Humanities, Data Engineer at Simple Finance, and Data Scientist at Periscopic. Melissa's early career involved project coordination at the Center for Open Science, a frontend internship at Squishymedia, and research assistance at Oregon Health & Science University. Educationally, Melissa holds a BA from Reed College.
